Dealing With Depression

(This post is actually from my single's blog but I felt led to post it here also)

Since I have been away from my own home for so long and staying with my elderly parents, feeling down and felling blue has become quite common for me. The current singles newsletter from Christianity Today features five stories from singles who talk about Dealing With Depression

The entire article is available at Dealing With Depression and features a link for finding local Christian counselors if you (or someone you know) may need a little help.

Loving God For Being God

I ran across this thought-provoking article by Kevin Cobb

“Daddy, Daddy, what did you bring me?” These are the words I often heard upon arriving home when my daughter was two years old. Each time I showed up bearing gifts, she would give me a suffocating hug while exclaiming, “Thank you daddy. I love you!” But every time I walked through the door empty handed, as was routinely the case, she would immediately resume playing with her toys or watching television. She really wasn’t interested in Daddy himself; she was in love with Daddy the toy-toting Santa Claus.

When the Praises Go Up, the Blessings Do Not Necessarily Come Down

God is sovereign and not bound by our rules or understanding. His blessings certainly are not dependant on our praises. However, it is good to praise the Lord always, even if we do not feel blessed.

I found this article on the web and wanted to share it.

When the Praises Go Up, the Blessings Do Not Necessarily Come Down

I really don't like the snow and cold up here at Momma's (especially on days like today when she did not even know who I was!) but I am being blessed in ways I did not expect. Click to read about Momma And Me

My Worship Bookmarks

There sure are a bunch of worship sites on the internet and sometimes it is hard to keep track of all of them. I have started bookmarking worship sites using del.icio.us - a convenient way to categorize and store bookmarks and to share them with others.

You can view mine by clicking My Worship Bookmarks on the left.

Jean Welles Worship Guitar Class

I added a new entry to My Links at the left.  Last week I ordered Worship Guitar Class videos from Jean Wells and put the link here on my site.   The videos I ordered are for six-string guitar although piano and voice are also available.  (My primary instrument is bass.) The course looks very interesting and is well-recommended.  She does have a nice affiliate program.

My elderly mother used to love to sing and we did the free sample lesson several times and she sang-along and loved it. That encouraged me to order the tapes.

The lessons should give me some special times with my mother.  She doesn't remember from one day to the next so we will be able to repeat lessons without her getting bored.  Watch for updates on my progress!

The lessons are great for learning (or improving) guitar skills and drawing close to God. Jean has suggestions for starting a local worship guitar class using her materials. I am considering starting a class for a backyard summer project (guitars sound better outdoors!).

Dumbing Down of Christianity

There has been a lot of dialog recently about dumbing down of the salvation message. Perhaps this is in response to so many churches being closed for the holiday (Christmas). It clearly is evidence of the Church Growth Movement (CGM) and it saddens my hearts greatly.

Be sure you are in a church that teaches the 4 R's (Recognition, Repentance, Reconciliation and Rejoicing) and not the 4 F's (Food, Fun, Fellowship, and Family).

Read your bible daily, spend time in prayer, and ask God for discernment.

Convergence Of Worshippers

While usually when I think about the resurgence of worship, I typically think of John Wimber, Integrity Music, Darlene Zchech, Vineyard Music, Ron Kenoly, etc, I recently found a nice resource at the Kentucky Baptist Convention website.

The Kentucky Baptist Convention is an older, established organization with a lot of tradition.

They sponsor a KBC Worship Stream Blog at their site. The initial entry discusses The Convergence Of Worshipers

The blog is well worth a read. It added to my understanding of worship AND convergence. It is refreshing and exciting to see the Lord working in so many places

About Sevier County Worship Dot Info

Just over ten years ago I learned the joy and freedom of true worship to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

After many years as part of the worship community in Southeastern Pennsylvania, I moved to Sevier County to be part of the Worship Explosion about to happen in this area.

Recently I was led to create this resource for ALL worshippers in the area, both residents and visitors.

Satan loves religion because he can deal with that; Satan hates true worship because he is powerless against it.

Hopefully this resource can also become a gathering place for Sevier County worship leaders to share ideas, needs, songs, etc.

This site has an ATOM newsfeed which you are welcome to add to your websites and your personal newsreaders.

Also, we will be building a directory of Weblinks to Sevier County churches. Several have been entered already and the directory will be updated regularly.

Please support this site by keeping us updated on worship events in Sevier County and also by covering us with a blanket of intercessionary prayer.

God Bless!

Some Great Clearance Pricing at Integrity Music

While this site is in no way intended to be a commercial site, I did see some great deals at http://www.integritymusic.com/

The folks at Integrity were very influential in my own personal worship development.

Some of the CDs and Cassettes would make great last minute Christmas (or, Holiday?) Gifts.

Some great worship leaders, too! Don, Alvin, Darlene, Lindell, Paul, Ron and more!

WILL YOUR CHURCH BE CLOSED FOR CHRISTMAS?

I wanted to share an article I just read about the church of today:

WILL YOUR CHURCH BE CLOSED FOR CHRISTMAS?
By Paul Proctor

November 27, 2005

Christmas is going to fall on Sunday this year. That hasn't happened since 1994 and won't happen again until 2011. In years past, this might not have been much of an issue; but considering today's chummy Church of charm and chatter and the celebrated catapulting of all inconvenience, discomfort and offense from among the brethren; I would say the following question is in order:

Will your church be closed for Christmas?

Where is your JOY today? Each week we honor God by spending an hour at church and by tithing and by offering and by some other traditions (they are all fine and biblical and traditions are valuable), but let us allow the words from the popular Billy Foote tune remind us "It is my JOY to honor you in ALL I do". Random Thoughtbyte: And so the Lord says, "These people say they are mine. They honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far away. And their worship of me amounts to nothing more than human laws learned by rote. Isaiah 29:13 NLT
Rules (stand up, sit down, hands up, hands down, etc) are not worship; a life lived in complete surrender to Jesus Christ is worship.

March For Jesus 2005 - May 14

Theme for 2005 - Created To Love. Called To Serve

Who: The entire body of Christ throughout the nation and world

When: Saturday May 14, 2005

What: Jesus Day and March for Jesus

How:
1. Contacting the Jesus Day Richmond Office to coordinate Jesus Day in your church/ministry.
2. Attending the upcoming Jesus Day National Conferece in January (dates TBD) in Richmond, Virginia.

Why: To show your cities, states and countries that you love your cities, you love God and that God loves your cities.

Brief History: March for Jesus started in England in the 1980s when some local churches decided to take what they experienced in their churches out into the streets. Songwriter Graham Kendrick participated in some of these early attempts and wrote a series of songs that were appropriate for the outdoor expression of the church.
